Mahavatar Narsimha beats Raid 2 as 4th biggest Hindi hit

‘Mahavatar Narsimha’beats Ajay Devgn’s ‘Raid 2’ to emerge as the 4th biggest Hindi hit of 2025

Ashwin Kumar’s animated film, Mahavatar Narsimha, has surpassed Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, becoming the 4th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025. Despite a modest opening, strong word-of-mouth and emotional storytelling propelled the film to success. The film’s impressive performance highlights the potential of Indian mythological narratives in animation, resonating deeply with audiences and setting a new benchmark.

Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narsimha has achieved yet another milestone at the box office. On its 31st day of release, the film’s Hindi version crossed the Rs 175.4 crore mark, taking it past Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 which had collected Rs 173.44 crore in its lifetime run. With this achievement, Mahavatar Narsimha has now emerged as the 4th biggest Hindi grosser of 2025, a remarkable feat for an animated mythological film that had to face stiff competition throughout its theatrical journey.

A Steady Run Despite Heavy Competition

The Hindi version of Mahavatar Narsimha opened to a modest Rs 1.35 crore on its first day. But the strong word-of-mouth, rooted in its emotional storytelling and unique retelling of the tale of Hiranyakashyap and Prahlad, quickly translated into growth. The Hindi collection zoomed to Rs 32.45 crore, establishing the film as a strong contender despite the strong buzz for Saiyaara which had released a week before. The second weekend turned out to be a game-changer, where by the end of it the Hindi version added Rs 54.95 crore to it’s kitty.

Strong Momentum in Weeks 3 and 4

Even in its third week, the film continued to thrive and it added Rs 53.75 crore to its Indian kitty and in week four the film the film finally dipped to earn just Rs 24. 6 crore.

The Historic 5th Weekend Push

The fifth weekend proved decisive in helping the film overtake Raid 2. On its 30th day, the film added Rs 3.6 crore, and on Day 31 (Sunday), it witnessed another jump, earning Rs 4.65 crore as per Sacnilk. With this, the Hindi version’s total collections reached an impressive Rs 175.4 crore, officially pushing Raid 2 down to 5th place and giving Mahavatar Narsimha the title of the 4th highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025.Just a few days ago Mahavtar Narsimha had displaced Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par for it’s 5th spot in the list of biggest Hindi hits of 2025.

A Landmark for Indian Animation and Mythology

The success of Mahavatar Narsimha goes beyond just numbers. At a time when audiences are used to Hollywood’s polished animation, this film has proven that Indian mythological storytelling, if told with conviction, can create magic at the box office. Its emotional depth, cultural resonance, and visual scale have ensured repeat audiences, making it one of the year’s most surprising success stories.
