Ranbir’s ‘Ramayana’ producer: ‘We have everything that…’

‘We have everything that the biggest Hollywood spectacles have,' says producer Namit Malhotra on Ranbir Kapoor - Sai Pallavi starrer ‘Ramayana’

Producer Namit Malhotra says Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana—starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash—matches top Hollywood spectacles in scale and VFX. At ET NOW Summit 2026, he shared his vision to showcase India’s rich culture globally via this two-part epic, releasing Diwali 2026-27.

‘Ramayana,’ directed by Nitesh Tiwari, has already become one of 2026’s most talked-about global film projects. With Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash leading the cast, the film continues to draw attention for its grand mythological vision, stellar cast, and large-scale production. Recently, producer Namit Malhotra shared insights about the much-anticipated project, further fueling audience curiosity.

Namit Malhotra on India’s cultural legacy and inspiration

At the ET NOW Global Business Summit 2026, during a discussion on AI and the future of filmmaking, Namit reflected on India’s deep-rooted cultural legacy. He described ‘Ramayana’ as a story that forms the very essence of Indian identity and tradition. Sharing his professional journey, Malhotra noted that the past twenty years have been devoted to establishing a strong footing in Hollywood, adding that Indian talent has already made its mark across sectors such as finance, technology, and medicine.”When I went to Hollywood, I saw that we had no real presence. They didn’t have any representation of our history or culture. Through this personal journey, it kept frustrating me that we were seen through this lens of an emerging country,” Namit said.

Namit Malhotra on the vision behind ‘Ramayana’

Malhotra said it always upset him that Indians were often shown as victims. He wanted to create something that truly shows who we are, our roots, culture, and history in a new way for the world to see. He shared, “That really became the genesis of why Ramayana is the perfect story of our history that can be presented and shown to the world with pride,” he added. He further said, “We have everything that the biggest Hollywood spectacles have, and one has made sure that we mount it at that scale and budget. Technical engagement and visual scale are second to none. People should feel tremendous pride that we are making what is the largest film, as an independently financed film from anywhere in the world.” Malhotra explained that his vision is driven by the aim to present India in a way the world truly appreciates, rather than letting it be defined by a few separate events. He expressed his excitement about bringing something special to audiences, not just in India but globally.

Ramayana’s cast and music

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ brings the timeless Hindu epic to life with Ranbir portraying Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash taking on the role of Ravana. The film is designed as a two-part spectacle, the first releasing in Diwali 2026 and the second following in 2027. The cast also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, while the iconic music duo Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman are creating the soundtrack. Go to Source
