Govinda’s manager, lawyer confirm Sunita filed for divorce

Govinda faces divorce petition from wife over cheating claims; niece pens cryptic note on love

The buzz around Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja’s marriage has resurfaced, but the actor’s team insists that there is no truth to the fresh wave of speculation. Reports recently claimed that Sunita officially filed for divorce on December 5, 2024, at the Bandra Family Court, citing adultery, cruelty, and desertion.Govinda’s manager dismisses fresh reports, Lawyer calls it “old news”Reacting to the news, Govinda’s manager Shashi Sinha told PTI that there was nothing new about the reports. “This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Sunita had filed a divorce petition six-seven months ago, now everything is getting settled. In a week or so everyone will hear the news,” he said, adding that the family is focused on celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi together. “The whole family is going to celebrate the Ganesh Chaturthi festival together, for which Sunita is busy doing the preparation,” he clarified.Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, also echoed the sentiment, dismissing the reports as “old news.” Neither Govinda nor Sunita has commented on the matter directly.Govinda-Sunita’s marriage under the scannerSpeculation around their relationship first surfaced in February 2024 when reports claimed that Sunita had initiated divorce proceedings. At the time, Bindal confirmed that she had filed a petition citing “misunderstandings,” while Govinda’s manager clarified that the issues were largely related to differences of opinion over his film projects.Govinda himself chose to stay away from the controversy, brushing it off as “business talks.” Sunita, however, fuelled speculation with a series of interviews hinting at marital discord, even going so far as to say she would not want to marry the actor in her next life.38 years of marriageMarried since 1987, Govinda and Sunita share two children, Tina and Yashvardhan. Their 38-year marriage has often been in the spotlight, with rumours of separation making headlines earlier this year.Govinda, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars of the 1990s, was last seen on screen in Rangeela Raja (2019). More recently, he stepped into active politics, joining Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena in 2024.
