Raimi Rules says ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy is complete

Sam Raimi explains why his version of ‘Spider-Man’ is over: 'I handed the torch off to someone else'

Director Sam Raimi has definitively closed the door on a potential “Spider-Man 4” featuring Tobey Maguire, stating his chapter with the character is complete. Raimi believes it’s inappropriate to revisit his version after the franchise has moved on and new iterations have been embraced by a fresh generation of fans. He emphasized the importance of continuing the story forward.

Sam Raimi has shut down any talk of a fourth film that would bring back Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, saying his ‘Spider-Man’ chapter is finished. In a recent interview, he said it would not “be right” to return and “resurrect my version” after the franchise moved on. Raimi said he once carried the character for a short time before passing it along. “For a brief time I was handed the torch to carry on after 40 years of ‘Spider-Man’ comics,” he said. “And then after my three movies, I handed the torch off to someone else.”

Sam Raimi explains why Spider-Man 4 will never happen

In an interview with ScreenRant, Sam Raimi reflected on his time guiding Sony’s Spider-Man series from 2002 to 2007. He said the characters played by Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst have already completed their journey. “Stan Lee’s great character — that a bullpen of writers in New York at Marvel had come up with stories for — he created the character, but so many people contributed,” Raimi said. “For a brief time I was handed the torch to carry on after 40 years of ‘Spider-Man’ comics. And then after my three movies, I handed the torch off to someone else.”Raimi stressed that passing the franchise forward matters more than revisiting the past. “I think they’ve got to keep running with the storyline and the audience that is now following the torchbearer,” he said. He said, “It wouldn’t be right for me to go back and try to resurrect my version of this story.”

Spider-Man franchise timeline and what comes next

According to Variety, Raimi launched the modern superhero era with ‘Spider-Man’ in 2002, followed by ‘Spider-Man 2’ in 2004 and ‘Spider-Man 3’ in 2007. After his run ended, Sony rebooted the property. Marc Webb directed ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ in 2012 and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ in 2014, with Andrew Garfield taking over the role.Marvel Studios later brought Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Holland debuted as Peter Parker in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in 2016. He then led ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ ‘Spider-Man: Far from Home,’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Raimi said a new generation of fans is really into this era and deserves stories made for them. The series keeps rolling ahead. The next entry, ‘Brand New Day,’ has finished filming and is slated for release on July 31. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing, with Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Jacob Batalon in the lineup. Raimi’s comments underscore that the spotlight now remains on the current team, not a revival of his earlier run. Go to Source
