UAE influencers could face AED 10,000 fine for missing January 31 ‘Advertiser Permit’ deadline

UAE influencers could face AED 10,000 fine for missing January 31 'Advertiser Permit' deadline

UAE influencers must secure advertiser permits by January 31 or risk fines reaching AED 10,000/Representative Image

For content creators and advertisers operating in the UAE, the clock is now ticking. January 31, 2026, is the final day to obtain the mandatory Advertiser Permit, after which anyone posting promotional content without approval risks fines of up to AED 10,000.The requirement, introduced by the UAE Media Council, is part of a broader effort to regulate digital advertising, increase transparency online and bring greater professionalism to the country’s growing content creation industry.

What the Advertiser Permit covers

The Advertiser Permit applies to individuals who publish any form of promotional content online in the UAE. This includes paid advertisements, brand collaborations, sponsored posts, gifted products and promotions carried out without payment or purely as a favour.Creators are required to clearly display their permit number on their social media accounts. They are also prohibited from allowing others to advertise through their accounts, regardless of follower count or reach. The permit is free for the first three years, but after a three-month grace period, holding it becomes mandatory for anyone involved in online advertising.

Who needs to apply

The rule applies to a wide range of creators and advertisers, including:

  • Influencers engaged in brand deals or sponsorships.
  • Creators posting paid or gifted promotional content.
  • Freelancers managing or boosting ads through personal accounts.
  • Individuals promoting products or services for others, even if unpaid.

The requirement applies to both UAE residents and visitors. Visitors planning to post promotional content while in the country must obtain a Visitor Advertiser Permit through a licensed agency. This permit is valid for three months and can be renewed once. How to apply Eligible individuals can apply for the Advertiser Permit through the UAE Media Council’s official website.

Who is exempt

Not all online activity falls under the permit requirement. Individuals promoting their own products or services through personal accounts do not need the permit.Creators under the age of 18 are also exempt if their content is educational, cultural or awareness-focused and complies with UAE age-related media regulations. In essence, the rule targets advertising for others, not self-promotion.

Validity and cost

  • UAE citizens and residents: Valid for one year, renewable.
  • Visitors: Valid for three months, renewable once.
  • Cost: Free for the first three years.

The extended free period is intended to give creators time to adjust to the new framework without immediate financial pressure.

Conditions for obtaining the permit

To apply, individuals must:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Have no record of previous media violations.
  • Hold a valid electronic media trade licence if resident in the UAE.
  • Apply through a licensed talent or advertising agency if visiting.

In some cases, additional approvals may be required before publishing certain advertisements, depending on the product or service being promoted.

Penalties for non-compliance

Creators who continue posting promotional content without an Advertiser Permit after January 31, 2026 face financial penalties. In previous cases, fines have reached AED 10,000, with amounts varying by emirate. With the deadline approaching, securing the permit in time allows creators and advertisers to continue operating without disruption and remain compliant with UAE media regulations.
