AMMA controversy: Kukku Parameswaran gets clean chit

AMMA memory card controversy: Kukku Parameswaran gets clean chit; Memory card handed to KPAC Lalitha

AMMA has cleared its General Secretary, Kukku Parameswaran, in the memory card controversy. A committee confirmed women shared Me Too experiences in 2018, recorded on a memory card later given to KPAC Lalitha. The organization believes the data wasn’t leaked due to the long gap, and no misuse occurred. Legal action is permitted for complainants.

The actors’ association AMMA has now spoken clearly about the memory card controversy. A committee was formed to look into the issue. After checking everything, the committee gave a clean chit to AMMA’s General Secretary, Kukku Parameswaran. The committee confirmed that in 2018 during the time when Me Too discussions were happening in the film industry some women members shared information about their experiences. That information was collected and recorded on a memory card. This part was confirmed as true by the committee. The issue became public only during the 2025 election period inside the organisation. Because of this long gap, many questions were raised, and that is why the investigation was done.

What happened to the memory card

As reported by Asianet News, during the investigation the committee found that the memory card was not kept by Kukku Parameswaran. It was handed over by her to KPAC Lalitha. This finding played an important role in the final decision of the committee.Since the incident happened in 2018 and came out only in 2025 the leadership of AMMA believes that the contents of the memory card were not leaked. According to their understanding there is no clear sign that the data was misused or stolen. After the executive committee meeting AMMA President Swetha Menon and office-bearer Joy Mathew spoke to the media. They said that the organisation has completed its internal investigation and taken a stand based on the report.

Dileep’s membership issue

Swetha Menon and Joy Mathew also made it clear that AMMA is not stopping anyone from taking legal steps. They said that if any member wants to move legally on their own, they are free to do so. The organisation will not block or interfere in that process. They also responded to questions about actor Dileep. They said that Dileep is not a member of AMMA at present. They clearly stated, “If Dileep wants membership, he should submit an application.” This was shared as a simple process and nothing more.

Allegations, findings, and what happens next

Some senior actresses had earlier raised serious allegations against Kukku Parameswaran. They said that when they spoke about difficult experiences in the film industry those conversations were recorded. There were also fears that such recordings could be used to threaten actresses.Swetha Menon spoke to the media again after the investigation report was presented . She said that the committee came to the conclusion that the people who were part of those discussions may themselves have spoken about the contents to others. She clearly said that there is no chance that the information was stolen or leaked by someone else. She also said that the organisation-level investigation is now complete. If the complainants are not happy with the report then they are free to go to court or take legal action. The executive committee has accepted the report fully. The report is 35 pages long. It includes signed statements from those who gave their testimonies. It is kept in a sealed cover. Any AMMA member can visit the office and check the report. Swetha Menon also said that the report will be presented at the upcoming General Body meeting.Earlier the complainants had said that such a possibility could exist. The organisation has now shared its final stand on the issue.
