At the Mauni Amavasya Mela in Prayagraj, Swami Avimukteshwaranand has made serious allegations against the police, claiming that saints and sadhus were subjected to undue force during rituals. According to the Swami, police were beating certain saints and refusing to listen to their grievances, creating tension at the holy Sangam. Earlier, officials had reportedly asked the procession of saints not to proceed with their chariot through dense crowds, but the saints did not comply and continued forward, leading to brief clashes. Despite these incidents, devotees continued to perform the sacred ritual of taking a holy dip. From early morning, over 1 crore pilgrims have arrived at the Triveni Sangam, highlighting the massive scale of the mela. The Swami emphasized that the religious sentiments of saints and devotees must be respected, while authorities stressed that the measures were aimed at crowd management and ensuring safety. The incident underscores the challenge of balancing law enforcement with religious practices during one of India’s largest spiritual gatherings.
