Air India and Saudia’s Smart Move Is Redefining Cross-Border Flying: Why This Codeshare Is Being Called a Game-Changer for India–Gulf Travel

Good news for travellers in India and Saudi Arabia! Air India, India’s flag carrier and Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, have officially signed a codeshare agreement that will take effect from February 2026 and the partnership is being hailed as a game-changer in aviation connectivity between the two countries as it will make booking flights easier. It will also expand access to multiple domestic and international destinations across both networks.Under the new codeshare pact, passengers flying between India and Saudi Arabia will benefit from single-ticket booking, coordinated flight schedules and seamless travel connections, eliminating the need to manage separate tickets or re-book between different legs of a journey. This means smoother travel for business travellers, tourists and the significant Indian diaspora living and working in Saudi Arabia.

What the India and Saudi Arabia codeshare covers: Expanded access and seamless travel

  • For Air India passengers

Passengers flying with Air India into Saudi Arabia, whether into Jeddah or Riyadh, will now have seamless onward connections on Saudia-operated flights to a wide range of domestic destinations across the Kingdom, including:

  1. Dammam
  2. Abha
  3. Gassim
  4. Gizan
  5. Madinah
  6. Taif

This expanded access will let travellers explore more of Saudi Arabia without the headache of multiple tickets or separate check-ins, making domestic and regional itineraries far easier to plan.

  • For Saudia guests

Likewise, passengers flying with Saudia will gain access to extensive destinations inside India through Air India’s network via Mumbai and Delhi, including:

  1. Ahmedabad
  2. Bengaluru
  3. Kolkata
  4. Kochi
  5. Hyderabad
  6. Chennai
  7. Lucknow
  8. Jaipur

In addition to those key cities, more than 15 additional Indian destinations will be available via interline agreements, vastly expanding travel options for visitors and residents alike. The deal also includes codeshare flights on the Jeddah–Riyadh route, providing travellers with the flexibility to arrive in one city and depart from another, a significant benefit for multi-city travel plans.

Air India and Saudia’s strategic partnership with multiple benefits

Airlines have said that the partnership aims to respond to growing demand from business, leisure and diaspora travellers, while enhancing convenience and opening up more flight choices with coordinated schedules and baggage transfer options.

Engr Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, called the agreement “a strategic step forward” that builds on decades of aviation history and deepens travel links between the two nations. He emphasised that easing travel procedures and offering broader access to destinations will significantly elevate the travel experience for passengers.Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson highlighted that Saudi Arabia is one of Air India’s most important markets in the Middle East, describing the Kingdom as a “major international gateway” and a fast-growing tourism and business hub. The codeshare, he said, will help connect India’s large diaspora in Saudi Arabia with greater ease, while also introducing Indian travellers to Saudi Arabia’s rapidly evolving tourism offerings.

What this means for travellers in Saudi Arabia and India

The new codeshare agreement marks a significant shift in how air travel between India and Saudi Arabia works:

  • Seamless connections under one itinerary improve convenience and reduce hassles related to booking multiple tickets.
  • Through-checked baggage and coordinated schedules save time and reduce stress for travellers.
  • Greater network access opens up previously less convenient destinations in both countries, expanding opportunities for tourism, business, family visits and trade.

In addition, complementary connections to other international destinations may be introduced later in 2026, further expanding the value of this partnership. This codeshare deal fits into a broader industry trend where airlines forge strategic partnerships to expand their global reach and enhance passenger convenience.

Air India itself has recently expanded its international partnerships, including agreements with carriers such as Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, to offer wider connectivity options across continents. For Saudia, the deal supports its continued efforts to position itself as a central gateway between Asia, the Middle East and beyond, helping strengthen tourism and economic ties between Saudi Arabia and India. The codeshare agreement between Air India and Saudia, beginning February 2026, is set to transform air travel for millions of passengers. By offering seamless connections, expanded network options and simplified bookings, the partnership promises to make travel smoother and more flexible, whether for business, leisure or family visits, across two of Asia’s most dynamic aviation markets.
