Taskaree Season 2? Director hints closure first

Taskaree': Will Emraan Hashmi starrer have Season 2? Director Raghav Jairath drops hint saying 'there will be a closure'

Director Raghav Jairath has unveiled that ‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’ was built to depict a complex first season, but the show’s growing fanbase might inspire more seasons down the line. He commended Emraan Hashmi’s prompt engagement with the role, noting the series’ emphasis on psychological unraveling over mere visual excitement.

As the crime drama ‘Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’ begins streaming on Netflix, viewers are already wondering whether the story could continue beyond its first season. Director Raghav Jairath has addressed that curiosity while also sharing insights into the creative decisions behind the series. He spoke about designing the show with a sense of closure, the thinking behind key casting choices, and the detailed research that helped shape its world. His comments offer a clearer picture of how the team approached storytelling and character.

Season 2 depends on audience response

In an exclusive interview with India Today, Jairath explained that the makers believe in giving each series a proper ending. “Currently, right now, we believe in doing an ending to every show. “So there will be a proper closure for each series,” he said. At the same time, he acknowledged that audience response can influence future plans. “But if the audience pours in love, and they want to see more of this, then we would love to extend it.” He referred to ‘Special Ops’ as an earlier example, noting that the team initially planned an ending but later expanded the narrative once viewer support became clear.

Casting choices and character depth

Jairath said casting Emraan Hashmi was a straightforward decision for the team. “When we were casting, it automatically aligned when the name came up,” he shared, adding that the writers had already felt he was right for the role. The actor agreed to the project almost instantly. “It was a mere two-and-a-half-minute narration, and he said, ‘Let’s do it.’”Discussing the role further, Jairath said, “His character is very intriguing and complex. We have shades of grey that you see when you see the show.” He also praised Hashmi’s preparation, explaining how the actor spent time around customs officials to observe their behavior. “He started catching these little nuances of what he could add to his character,” he said.On Sharad Kelkar’s portrayal of Bada Chaudhary, Jairath described the character as carefully constructed with a strong backstory. “Sharad has a powerful presence. He’s quiet. Even if he doesn’t say something, his presence has something that kind of pulls you towards him.” He added that the series leans more on psychological tension than spectacle. “It’s a mind game. It’s a constant cat-and-mouse mind game.”Jairath also mentioned Prakash Kumar, Amrita Khalvikar, and Nandish Sandhu as performances that stood out. He said extensive conversations with customs and AIU officers informed the storytelling. “They know everything that’s in your bag,” he noted, adding that such real-world details helped ground the series in authenticity.’Taskaree: The Smuggler’s Web’ Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix after its January 14, 2026, release. The crime thriller has seven episodes created by Neeraj Pandey; the series aims for a complete first-season arc. Go to Source
