Indian Merchant Navy Seafarer Arrested in Iran, Parents Plead for Government Intervention

An Indian merchant navy seafarer’s arrest in Iran has left his elderly parents distressed, as they appeal to the central government for urgent intervention to secure their son’s safe return. The seafarer, who has been working in the merchant navy for nearly eight years, was detained while transporting diesel from Iran during what was supposed to be his last voyage as a third engineer before promotion. According to his mother, the family first learned about the arrest through a phone call in early January. Subsequent inquiries with agents and the shipping company yielded little clarity, deepening their anxiety. Despite repeated attempts to contact company officials, the family claims they received no concrete information about the circumstances of the arrest or their son’s current condition. The parents have since reached out to multiple authorities, including the Ministry of External Affairs, submitting details via official email channels. While they briefly received a response requesting passport details, communication has reportedly stalled since then. The family has also approached legal avenues and media platforms in hopes of expediting action. The mother, fighting back tears, made a direct appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to take swift diplomatic and legal steps. Her sole request, she said, is to be allowed to speak to her son and to see him return home safely as soon as possible.
