‘Border 2’ trailer: Internet likens Varun’s dialogue to Sidharth’s ‘Shershaah’

'Border 2' trailer: Internet likens Varun Dhawan's dialogue to Sidharth Malhotra as Captain Vikram Batra from ‘Shershaah’

Varun Dhawan’s ‘Border 2’ trailer just dropped and fans are already talking. Playing Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, he delivers a dialogue that instantly reminds people of Sidharth Malhotra’s ‘Shershaah’. In the ‘Border 2’ trailer, Dhawan tells his on-screen wife, played by Medha Rana, “Ghabraane ki toh koi baat hi na hai. Fauji hoon, waapis toh aana hi hai. Ya toh jeet kar ya yaad bann kar, lekin aana zaroor hai!” This translates to, “There’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m a soldier, I’m bound to come back. Either I return as a victor or as a memory, but I will definitely come back!” Following this, a barrage of comments across social media platforms likened and compared Varun Dhawan’s dialogue delivery to Sidharth Malhotra’s in ‘Shershaah’

‘Shershaah’ comparison

Fans immediately noticed the similarity with ‘Shershaah’, where Sidharth had said, “Oye fikar naa kar jaani, tiranga lehra kar aaoonga. Nahi toh usme lipat ke aaoonga lekin aaoonga zaroor haan!” or, “Hey, don’t worry, my love, I will come waving the tricolor. If not, I’ll come wrapped in it – but I will definitely come, yes!” In both films, the dialogues emphasize the soldier’s promise to return, whether alive or as a memory.

Varun opens up on past insecurities

Earlier in 2024, Varun admitted he felt insecure about Sidharth’s presence in ‘Shershaah’. On Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, he said, “He was tall and wide, good looking, and there were two heroes in the film. At that time, I felt that he is amazing and looks handsome, so people will only watch him. Will people even notice me or not? What if my dream only stays a dream?”

Struggles beyond looks

Varun also shared that negativity around nepotism made him doubt acceptance. He said, “Moreover, the negativity around nepotism also started at that time. So during that time, I hadn’t planned anything before I entered the industry, I only knew that I’ve worked hard and I am deserving, but people were saying something else. The reception has not always been flowery, that’s what people feel. But, I have had to fight that a lot. No matter what happens, I will keep fighting.”

Fans love the soldier energy

Even with the trailer dropping, fans are praising Varun’s dialogue and soldier vibe. ‘Border 2’ looks set to deliver action, emotion, and nostalgia all in one.
