India’s automobile exports rose 13 per cent year-on-year in April–December 2025, highlighting the country’s growing importance as a global manufacturing base, data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday showed.

Vehicle shipments increased to 6,70,930 units during the period, compared with 5,78,091 units a year earlier.

OEMs reported sustained export growth and continued to position India as a key manufacturing hub in this space. Demand for India-made vehicles remained strong across markets, including Mexico, South America, Africa and West Asia. Exports during the period included electric and internal combustion engine vehicles, ranging from small cars to SUVs and premium models.

Maruti Suzuki led the export charts, shipping 3,08,237 units between April and December 2025. The automaker exports vehicles to over 100 countries, with models such as Fronx, Swift, Baleno and Jimny supplied to markets in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. The company accounts for 46 per cent of India’s total car exports.

Over the past five years, Maruti Suzuki’s exports have risen by around 365 per cent compared with 2020. The company also commenced exports of its first battery electric vehicle, the e VITARA, which has been shipped to more than 29 countries, mainly in Europe.

Hyundai Motor India retained the second position, exporting 1,48,428 units during the period, up 18 per cent from 1,25,286 units a year ago. The company exports models including Creta, i10, Verna, Venue and Exter to over 80 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.

In 2025, Hyundai reiterated its focus on India as a global export base, targeting 30 per cent of production for export by 2030, citing “geographical advantages for emerging markets”.
