Evict CISF, Kolkata Chinese school urges court

.

KOLKATA: One of the last remaining Chinese schools in Kolkata’s Chinatown in Tangra has moved Calcutta HC, seeking direction to evict CISF personnel deployed on its campus for RG Kar Medical College and Hospital’s security since the Aug 2024 gang-rape and murder of a junior doctor there, reports Subhro Niyogi. “Several letters were sent to govt, but we have not received a reply. We, therefore, had no alternative but to move HC to reclaim the school, which is an integral part of Kolkata Chinese community and Hakka culture,” said Pei May Chinese High School president KC Liu. Entrepreneur Monica Liu said state govt had requested that the school – founded in late 1940s – house CISF men for two months. Sixteen months later, three companies still occupy 18 classrooms without notice or extension, she said, adding no rent or electricity bill has been paid. The community wrote to Nabanna saying the school should be vacated before Chinese New Year 2025. Another New Year is approaching and they “want the school back”. A source said the state govt had last year asked CISF to vacate, but the force stayed on.
