‘War 2’ crosses Rs 200 crore mark in India

'War 2' Box Office collection day 8: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani's action film crosses Rs 200 crore mark in India; trails behind Rajinikanth's ‘Coolie’

‘War 2’, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, arrived in cinemas on 14 August with sky-high buzz. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the spy thriller also features Kiara Advani in an important role. The film is part of growing spy universe and was expected to make waves at the box office. ‘War 2’ clashed with none other than superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’, which released on the same day.

‘War 2’ crosses the Rs 200 crore milestone

On its second Thursday (day 8), ‘War 2’ added around Rs 5 crore to its India collections, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. This took the film’s total to a strong Rs 204.25 crore. Crossing the Rs 200 crore mark in just over a week is no small feat, and it shows the pull of Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR at the box office.

‘War 2’ day 8 occupancy

On Thursday, 21 August, the film saw mixed occupancy across cinemas. Hindi shows recorded an overall 9.19%, Tamil shows stood at 16.85%, and Telugu shows at 14.25%. However, the numbers also reveal a slowdown compared to its opening weekend highs. After a powerful start, the film is now settling into a steady but more modest pace.

‘War 2’ day-wise box office collections

Here’s a look at how ‘War 2’ has performed at the box office so far:Day 1 [Thursday] Rs 52 Cr [Hi: 29 Cr ; Ta: 0.25 Cr ; Te: 22.75 Cr]Day 2 [Friday] Rs 57.85 Cr [Hi: 45 Cr ; Ta: 0.35 Cr ; Te: 12.5 Cr]Day 3 [Saturday] Rs 33.25 Cr [Hi: 26 Cr ; Ta: 0.3 Cr ; Te: 6.95 Cr]Day 4 [Sunday] Rs 32.65 Cr [Hi: 27 Cr ; Ta: 0.3 Cr ; Te: 5.35 Cr]Day 5 [Monday] Rs 8.75 Cr [Hi: 7 Cr ; Ta: 0.15 Cr ; Te: 1.6 Cr]Day 6 [Tuesday] Rs 9 Cr [Hi: 7.75 Cr ; Ta: 0.1 Cr ; Te: 1.15 Cr]Day 7 [Wednesday] Rs 5.75 Cr [Hi: 4.65 Cr ; Ta: 0.1 Cr ; Te: 1 Cr]Day 8 [Thursday] Rs 5 Cr (early estimates)Total: Rs 204.25 CrThe first four days were huge, powered by the extended Independence Day weekend. But from Monday onwards, the film has seen a sharp drop, with single-digit collections.

‘War 2’ clash with ‘Coolie’

If ‘War 2’ had been a solo release, the story might have been different. But going up against Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ was always going to be tough. On day 8, ‘Coolie’ earned Rs 6.25 crore, higher than the Rs 5 crore brought in by ‘War 2’. With this, ‘Coolie’ reached a total of Rs 229.75 crore, well ahead of Hrithik and Jr NTR’s spy film.

About ‘War 2’

Hrithik Roshan is back as Kabir, his popular character from the first ‘War’. This time he is joined by N. T. Rama Rao Jr., making his debut in this universe, along with Kiara Advani. The film is is directed by Ayan Mukerji.

‘War 2’ road ahead

The big question now is whether ‘War 2’ can maintain steady numbers in its second week. Crossing Rs 200 crore is a major achievement, but staying strong against a rival as big as ‘Coolie’ is no easy task. With its current pace, the film may continue to add to its total, but the battle for the top spot is clearly in favour of Rajinikanth’s film for now.As both films move into their second weeks, all eyes will be on whether Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s spy outing can regain some momentum or if ‘Coolie’ will continue to rule the box office.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
