Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen in a deeply devotional avatar as he performed Shiva Abhishek and ritual worship at the Somnath Temple. Visuals on television screens showed the Prime Minister immersed in intense spiritual practice, following Vedic traditions under the guidance of learned priests. Chanting of sacred mantras accompanied the rituals as PM Modi carefully observed each step of the ceremonial worship. According to priests, the Prime Minister performed the complete Shodashopachar Puja, which includes invoking Lord Shiva, offering water at the feet, Arghya, Achaman, ritual bathing, application of sandalwood, offering of flowers, incense, lamps, and concluding with Aarti. The worship was conducted primarily using mantras from the Shukla Yajurveda, especially the Rudrashtadhyayi, which holds special significance in Shiva worship. After completing the rituals, PM Modi sought blessings from Lord Shiva and the attending acharyas. Religious scholars explained that the Rudra Abhishek is considered highly auspicious and is believed to bring peace, prosperity, and spiritual purification. The ceremony concluded with prayers dedicating all actions to Lord Shiva. The visuals once again highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s long-standing association with spiritual practices and India’s ancient Vedic traditions, as the Somnath temple resonated with sacred chants and rituals during the ceremony.
