‘Vijay deserves the farewell he has earned’: Jana Nayagan producer

‘Thalapathy Vijay deserves the farewell he has earned’: Jana Nayagan producer apologizes to audiences after HC stay

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated Jana Nayagan has been postponed indefinitely after the Madras High Court stayed the film’s release until the next hearing on January 21. The legal setback comes at a crucial moment, as Jana Nayagan is widely believed to be Vijay’s final film before he formally steps into active politics. Amid mounting speculation and disappointment among fans, KVN Productions founder Venkat K. Narayana has issued his first detailed statement addressing the controversy.

Producer clarifies CBFC process

Taking to KVN Productions’ official social media handles, Narayana shared a video explaining the sequence of events that led to the delay. Thanking fans for their patience, he said, “To everyone who has been waiting for our film Jana Nayagan with immense love and anticipation, we extend our sincere gratitude. Over the past few days, we have received countless calls and messages and each one reminds us how deeply this film is already loved.”He explained that the film was submitted to the CBFC on December 18, 2025, and viewed by the Examining Committee. “On December 22, 2025, we received an email stating that the film would be granted a U/A 16+ certificate, subject to a few changes. We incorporated the changes and re-submitted the film, believing we were finally ready to share our work with you,” he said, adding that the formal certificate, however, was still awaited despite repeated follow-ups.

Complaint, court order and fresh setback

Narayana further revealed that just days before the planned January 5, 2026 release, the makers were informed that the film had been referred to the Revising Committee based on a complaint. “With time running out and without knowing who the complainant was, we approached the honourable High Court,” he said.According to the producer, after hearings on January 6 and 7, the court initially directed that a U/A 16+ certificate be issued. “But CBFC challenged this decision immediately and the order to issue the certification is currently stayed, with an interim stay granted,” he explained.

Apology to fans and faith in judiciary

Expressing regret over the delay, Narayana said, “We sincerely apologize to our audiences, distributors, exhibitors and all other stakeholders who stood by us during this difficult period. We made every possible effort to bring this film to audiences as planned, but these developments were beyond our control.” He described the situation as an emotionally taxing phase for the entire team that had invested years of hard work into the film.Striking an emotional note, the producer added, “Above all, we firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell that he has earned through decades of love from his fans and respect from the industry.” Reaffirming confidence in the system, he concluded, “We have complete faith in the judicial process and remain hopeful that the film will reach audiences at the earliest.”

CBFC scrutiny across films

Jana Nayagan is not the only Tamil film to face certification hurdles recently. Sivakarthikeyan and Sreeleela’s Parasakthi also underwent a tough CBFC process, with over 20 cuts reportedly mandated before it was finally cleared for release. Go to Source
