JAMMU: Security forces carried out joint search operations in multiple locations of J&K’s Samba and Jammu districts based on local reports about suspicious movement in the areas, while BSF seized a suspected surveillance drone from Nawa Pind near the international border in Jammu’s RS Pura sector, officials said Friday.Officials said a resident of Katli village, near Maheshwar Military area in Samba, spotted an armed terror suspect on a bike, who allegedly sought directions from him to the national highway on Friday. As villagers began gathering, the suspect sped up and fled from the spot, prompting locals to inform police. A joint team of security forces subsequently rushed to the site and began a search operation, officials said.The same day, a joint team of J&K Police, SOG, and CRPF initiated a combing operation in the forested area of Sidhra on the outskirts of Jammu.Earlier on Thursday, a joint checking campaign was launched by the Army and police in Miran Sahib, a border village in Jammu. “The exercise continued throughout the night, with security personnel checking every vehicle passing through the area. The campaign comes amid ongoing anti-terror operations in Jammu division, with overall security stepped up,” an official said. Separately, BSF troops seized a drone from RS Pura’s Nawa Pind area near the international border Friday. “Preliminary checks suggested the drone is a DJI Neo 2 model, commonly used for surveillance,” said an official, adding that the UAV was sent to the forensic laboratory for a detailed technical analysis. Further investigation was underway to determine the drone’s origin and purpose.Ahead of Republic Day, security forces have been on high alert, continuously carrying out search operations and intensifying patrols along the international border in Samba and Kathua districts, the twin frontier districts of Rajouri-Poonch, and in the Kishtwar-Doda-Udhampur belt, which lies on the traditional infiltration route opted by terrorists to enter Kashmir Valley.
