Delhi News: Cold Wave Intensifies Across North India, Capital Records Coldest Day of the Year

Severe cold conditions continue to grip North India, with Delhi experiencing its coldest day of the year on Tuesday. The national capital was officially declared under a “cold day” status as temperatures dipped sharply, causing widespread discomfort among residents. The Meteorological Department has warned that biting cold conditions are likely to persist during the day as well. According to weather officials, Delhi recorded maximum temperatures ranging between 13 to 16 degrees Celsius, significantly below normal for this time of year. On Wednesday too, cold day conditions prevailed, prompting authorities to reiterate precautions for vulnerable populations. To cope with the harsh weather, many people across the city were seen using bonfires and other means to keep warm. The cold wave has also disrupted daily life in neighboring regions. Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad have been ordered to remain closed until January 10 as a precautionary measure to protect children from extreme cold. Dense fog has further worsened the situation, directly impacting rail and air services, leading to delays and cancellations in several parts of North India. The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to remain cautious, especially during early morning and late-night hours, as cold wave and foggy conditions are expected to continue in the coming days.
