Dan Crenshaw says a planned podcast interview never happened because the host backed out. The Texas congressman claims podcaster Shawn Ryan canceled their January 2, 2026 interview after weeks of online tension. Both men are former Navy SEALs. Their disagreement started months ago after Ryan criticized Crenshaw on The Shawn Ryan Show. The situation became public again when Ryan shared a video on New Year’s Day saying Crenshaw canceled the interview. Crenshaw quickly pushed back and shared emails, legal messages, and travel proof to say the opposite.Crenshaw said he was ready to fly to Nashville for the interview and had already agreed to appear. Ryan, however, claimed Crenshaw asked for special terms and refused to sign a waiver. The public back-and-forth on X turned the private issue into a major online debate, with both sides saying the other walked away. As of now, only one side has shared documents. Ryan has not replied to Crenshaw’s latest claims.
Dan Crenshaw details emails, waiver dispute, and travel proof over Shawn Ryan podcast interview
Dan Crenshaw used a long X thread to explain his side of the story. He posted emails between his lawyer and Shawn Ryan’s lawyer. One email from December 22 asked for a standard written agreement and confirmed that the interview would not be edited.Crenshaw said his team received the waiver later and suggested small edits. According to him, Ryan’s lawyer replied, “We are not considering any redlines.” Another email discussed a clause about defending the podcast if a guest caused legal trouble.Ryan’s lawyer wrote, “If Mr. Crenshaw comes in and decides to lie and defame a third party, who then files a lawsuit, then yes, we expect him to defend and indemnify the company.”Crenshaw said he agreed to changes related to the Speech and Debate clause and waited for an updated waiver. He claimed the updated version was never sent. Despite that, his team contacted Ryan’s side to talk about timing and travel. To support his claim, Dan Crenshaw posted a flight ticket showing travel to Nashville on January 1, 2026. He said this proves he did not cancel.Ryan’s legal team later said Crenshaw “quibbled” over the waiver instead of signing it. Crenshaw denied this and said his lawyer emailed again on January 1 asking for the final waiver after Shawn Ryan posted the video. In his final post, Crenshaw wrote, “Why cancel? Maybe because they knew I was coming with evidence to refute every attack against me and that would embarrass Shawn and their narrative.”Dan Crenshaw also said this conflict began after Shawn Ryan misunderstood a private message sent in 2025. Crenshaw said the message was not a threat and that he already shared proof to clear that claim. As of now, Shawn Ryan has not responded to this X thread. Also Read: Did Nick Shirley Call His Own Work Satire? Journalist Caolan Robertson Raises Doubts As Minnesota Daycare Video Spreads
