NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday undertook a submarine sortie at the Karwar naval base in Karnataka, officials said.Murmu embarked onboard INS Vaghsheer, an indigenous Kalvari-class submarine of the Indian Navy, becoming only the second President of India to do so.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi accompanied the President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, during the sortie.Sharing the photos the official twitter account of Rashtrapati Bhavan wrote on X, “President Droupadi Murmu embarked the Indian Navy’s indigenous Kalvari class submarine INS Vaghsheer at Karwar Naval Base, Karnataka. The President is undertaking a sortie on the Western Seaboard.”

“Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi is accompanying the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces,” it added.This was President Murmu’s maiden submarine sortie. Former President A P J Abdul Kalam was the first Indian President to undertake a submarine sortie.
