‘Can’t be stranded in your country’: Nikki Haley’s son on H-1B visa delay, says India raising issue with US only for remittance money

'Can't be stranded in your country': Nikki Haley's son on H-1B visa delay, says India raising issue with US only for remittance money

Nikki Haley’s son Nalin Haley joined the social media mocking of the situation of the H-1B visa holders in India who went back home for visa stamping but are now stuck in India as the consulates deferred all appointments by at least six months. Nalin Haley said what the average H-1B haters are saying: Indians can’t be ‘standed’ in India. Nalin Haley also said that the Indian government took up the issue with the US government because ‘they want their remittance money’. “Delaying visas is good but not good enough. We need a complete H-1B visa ban,” Nalin Haley said.Haley is known for his anti-H-1B stance as he said his college friends are not getting jobs in this economy and hence America should stop giving jobs to foreigners.

H-1B delay leads to chaos, uncertainty in India

Hundreds of H-1B visa holders flew to India to get their visa stamping done as the administration made it mandatory to get the stamping now in the country of origin. After they reached India for their scheduled visa appointments in January, they were told that their appointment dates had been rescheduled to 2026, starting from March-April. This leaves a chunk of H-1B workers at a lurch, as now they can’t enter the US without a new stamping and are also uncertain as to whether they would be allowed to work from India. Many Indians with valid H-1B visa traveled to India for holidays only to find out that their visas had been revoked. They have been told that they won’t be able to enter the US without a new stamp. Given the present situation, it may take at least six months in India. From December 15, H-1B and H-4 (H-1B dependent) applicants have been subject to social media vetting.Despite many MAGA activists calling for H-1B ban, the administration is overhauling the system and proposed a wage-based selection instead of random H-1B lottery. In the proposed wage-based selection, higher wage will get higher priorities.
