Weather Update: Cold Wave and Dense Fog Disrupt Normal Life Across North India, Rail and Air Services Hit

A severe cold wave accompanied by dense fog has significantly disrupted daily life across several parts of North India. In Varanasi, thick fog has led to major delays in train services, leaving passengers stranded for hours. People are being forced to light bonfires in different areas to protect themselves from the biting cold, as temperatures continue to remain low. The combined impact of extreme cold and fog has made daily activities increasingly difficult for the general public. Authorities have advised travelers to check the status of their journeys before stepping out, as both rail and air services are badly affected. Visibility has dropped to near zero in many regions, increasing the risk for commuters. Similar conditions are being reported from Jammu, where dense fog has covered the city, as clearly visible in on-ground visuals. Vehicles are moving slowly with headlights turned on even during daytime hours. Due to poor visibility, road traffic in Jammu has come to a near standstill, resulting in frequent traffic jams. Air and railway operations have also been disrupted. Most trains are running several hours behind schedule, while flight operations have been severely impacted. No flights have been able to land in Jammu so far, and several departures and arrivals are facing long delays. Overall, the harsh winter conditions continue to affect transportation and normal life across the region.
