Online Gaming Bill 2025 Tabled: Push For Esports, Crackdown On Money Games

Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday presented the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha.

The proposed legislation seeks to give a structured push to e-sports, educational games, and social gaming, while placing strict checks on money-based online games.

The draft outlines the creation of a dedicated regulatory authority that will provide coordinated policy support, guide the sector’s growth, and oversee compliance.

The authority will also have powers to prohibit the operation, facilitation, advertising, and promotion of online money games on any digital platform, be it computer systems, mobile devices, or the internet.
