Among the most talked-about celebrity breakups of 2025 was the end of Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s marriage. What began as a whirlwind romance sparked by online dance classes during the pandemic ended four years later in a courtroom. But beyond the headlines, their story says a lot about the complexities of love in the public eye.

Chahal’s sartorial choice during one of their court appearances became a moment in itself. Walking in wearing a black T-shirt emblazoned with “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy,” the Indian spinner seemed to send a deliberate message. Fans quickly connected the cheeky slogan to his ex-wife, and Chahal later admitted it was a symbolic way of drawing a line under the relationship.

If his statement-making tee drew laughter and debate, Dhanashree bore the harsher side of public opinion. The choreographer-turned-influencer was trolled heavily, accused of being a “gold digger,” and blamed for the split. But instead of retreating, she chose to channel her energy into her craft. She returned to dance—her first love—and began reclaiming her space online with renewed confidence.

In a heartfelt interview with Humans of Bombay, Dhanashree reflected not just on her breakup, but on the universal desire for love. “I think we all want love in life. Like, who doesn’t want to be loved? We all do somewhere, we all hope, we have that faith,” she said. Her emphasis on self-love “love yourself and then find love later” echoes the growing lifestyle conversation around healing, resilience, and prioritising one’s well-being after heartbreak.

What stood out most, however, was her unwavering romantic spirit. Calling love “the most beautiful feeling,” she admitted she’s still drawn to the idea of old-school, Bollywood-style romance bells ringing, flowers falling, the works. It’s a reminder that even after public scrutiny and personal upheaval, holding onto hope is a form of strength.

Their journey  from an online dance class to an August 2020 engagement, a December wedding, and finally, a divorce in March 2025 with a reported alimony settlement of ₹4.75 crore shows how quickly relationships can evolve and unravel in today’s hyper-connected world. But it also highlights something larger: that the end of one love story doesn’t mean the end of love itself.

For fans, Chahal and Dhanashree’s split may have been gossip fodder, but for many, it’s also a relatable reminder of the modern relationship cycle—falling fast, breaking hard, and learning to rebuild with grace.
