BJP gets new national president: Meet Nitin Nabin, the Bihar minister who replaced JP Nadda

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday appointed Bihar minister and senior party leader Nitin Nabin as its national working president, marking a major organisational change at the top of the ruling party. The decision was taken by the BJP parliamentary board, with Nabin set to replace incumbent party chief JP Nadda.A Public Works Department minister in the Bihar government, Nabin is a four-time MLA from Patna’s Bankipur assembly constituency, one of the BJP’s strongest urban seats in the state. His elevation places a seasoned organisation hand with long grassroots experience at the centre of the party’s national leadership.Born in Patna, Nitin Nabin began his political journey at a young age through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad before moving into active party politics with the BJP and its youth wing. Over the years, he has been regarded as a disciplined organiser with strong links to booth-level workers and the state cadre. He was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2000 and has retained the Bankipur seat in successive elections. In the 2020 Bihar assembly polls, he won by a margin of around 84,000 votes, defeating Luv Sinha, the son of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha. Pushpam Priya Chaudhary also lost the contest by a wide margin.Within the organisation, Nabin has held several key responsibilities, including serving as Bihar BJP general secretary, a member of the party’s national executive, and national general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He has also served as the BJYM’s Bihar state president, playing a role in strengthening the party’s youth base.He is often credited with reinforcing the BJP’s organisational structure in Patna and neighbouring regions, particularly at the booth level. Known for his accessibility and focus on local issues, Nabin has been actively involved in election planning and cadre mobilisation during both state and national polls.Nitin Nabin is the son of veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Sinha and belongs to the Kayasth community. Within the Bihar BJP, he is seen as a leader with a blend of electoral success and organisational depth, attributes that have now propelled him to a key role in the party’s national leadership.
