‘South African immigrant annoyed at…’: Mehdi Hasan slams Elon Musk for speaking against Ilhan Omar, Zohran Mamdani

'South African immigrant annoyed at...': Mehdi Hasan slams Elon Musk for speaking against Ilhan Omar, Zohran Mamdani

British journalist Mehdi Hasan criticised Elon Musk for his comments on Somali immigrants in the United States, saying the Tesla CEO is annoyed that African-born communities can vote while he himself, a South African immigrant who votes in Texas, shares little in common with them.Hasan made the comments after Musk weighed in on US politics, claiming that Congresswoman Ilhan Omar only won her seat because of her Somali vote bank, which he said consisted largely of immigrants not born in America. Musk also said that the recent New York City mayoral election, in which Zohran Mamdani emerged victorious, can be described as a similar case. He described the situation as a “Communist hell,” in an interview with Katie Miller. Musk has long been critical of Mamdani and even publicly supported former governor Andrew Cuomo. He even jokingly misspelled Mamdani’s name, which was perceived as racist by a lot of netizens. Earlier this week, the billionaire also accused Democratic leaders, including Omar and Mamdani, of importing migrants to create voting blocs. Musk made the remarks on X in response to a user concerned that Western governments prioritise third-world immigrants. Musk said: “Once you understand the incentive, the reason for the behavior becomes obvious: they are importing a left-voting bloc that depends on government handouts.”He added: “A prominent example of this in America is Ilhan Omar and her Somali voting bloc in Minnesota, an area which used to be primarily Nordic-German.” Musk claimed that similar tactics were being used in blue Democratic strongholds such as California and New York to build a “single-party supermajority” and warned: “We stand on the precipice of disaster, an end to America.”Musk has also shared far-right talking points, reposting material from UK activist Tommy Robinson, Nigel Farage and others that portray Somali migration as a threat to public safety and American identity. He wrote: “If current trends continue, Whites will go from being a small minority of world population today to virtually extinct!”
