Kristi Noem responds to rumours of Trump replacing her in White House: 'I will serve at...'

Kristi Noem has brushed off rumours that President Donald Trump is preparing to remove her from the top seat at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), telling reporters she has seen no signs that her job is in jeopardy. At a press conference, Noem laughed when asked about rumours that Trump was considering replacing her. “No, I do not have any indication of that,” she said. When pressed on whether she expected to remain in the post for the full term of four years, she replied: “I will serve at the president’s pleasure.” The comments follow a report by The Bulwark, which claimed three former DHS officials in contact with current staff believed Trump was thinking about “moving on” from Noem. According to the report, two of those officials suggested the change could come “really soon” and noted that Noem had taken a smaller role in directing department memos. The White House has rejected the claims. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson wrote on X: “Anonymous former staffers pretend to know what POTUS is thinking and the Bulwark treats them as credible? This ‘report’ and the Bulwark is total FAKE NEWS! Secretary Noem is doing a great job implementing the President’s agenda and Making America Safe Again.” CNN reported in November that DHS was among the departments that might see changes and that some White House officials had grown frustrated with Lewandowski’s involvement in the agency. One person close to the administration said Trump had been told Lewandowski was “a problem” and that the department was suffering from mismanagement, a claim Lewandowski denied, reports Newsweek. The Bulwark report also said that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, who completes his term in January, has been floated as a potential successor. Youngkin has shown interest in joining the administration, but he is said to prefer a portfolio linked to economic or business affairs rather than DHS.At a Cabinet meeting last week, she told POTUS: “Thank you for giving me a very interesting job. Some days it is a little controversial too, but it has been an honour to work for you.”
