Heavy rainfall and flash floods have caused widespread disruption across several northern Indian states, affecting transport, infrastructure, and daily life. In Ladakh’s Kargil district, a flash flood in the Batakhar stream deposited large amounts of debris on the Kargil–Zanskar Highway, halting traffic and prompting authorities to issue a travel advisory urging people to avoid unnecessary journeys until the road is cleared. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, continuous rainfall has created flood-like conditions, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting normal life, while officials remain on alert and are monitoring vulnerable locations. In Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, flash floods blocked the Sangla–Chitkul road after mud, boulders, and debris swept onto the route, leading authorities to advise tourists and residents against travelling. Meanwhile, flooding in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, triggered by heavy rainfall in Nepal and water released from the Kosi Barrage, has submerged villages, damaged roads, affected schools and farmland, and forced authorities to evacuate around 24 villages as rescue efforts continue.
