Tensions between the US and Iran have escalated sharply ahead of the proposed second round of talks in Islamabad. While diplomatic preparations are reportedly underway in Pakistan, Iran has not officially confirmed participation, creating uncertainty over whether the meeting will take place. Tehran insists that negotiations can only happen on equal terms and has accused the US of exerting pressure through military actions and sanctions. The situation intensified after reports of US naval forces seizing an Iranian vessel and increasing surveillance in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran considers a violation of its sovereignty. US officials, meanwhile, continue to push demands related to Iran’s nuclear program, including uranium enrichment limits and regional security concerns. Analysts warn that a deep trust deficit between both sides is undermining diplomatic progress. Despite ongoing backchannel efforts, conflicting statements, military posturing, and hardline positions on both sides have raised fears that the talks may collapse, increasing the risk of further escalation in the region.
