As the Middle East war enters its 15th day, the reported attack on Iran’s Kharg Island has drawn major global attention due to its strategic importance. Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, is a small but highly critical location for Iran’s economy. Nearly 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports pass through this island, making it the backbone of the country’s energy sector. Experts say that targeting Kharg Island could directly affect Iran’s economy and disrupt global oil markets. Defense expert Lieutenant General Shankar Prasad explained that the ongoing conflict appears to be heading in the same direction as the prolonged wars in Ukraine and Gaza, where destruction continues without a clear end goal. According to him, the original objectives such as regime change or destroying nuclear facilities remain uncertain. Meanwhile, reports say US and Israeli forces carried out heavy strikes on Iran, causing large-scale destruction in cities like Isfahan and targeting Shiraz International Airport. As the war escalates, analysts warn that prolonged conflict could destabilize global energy supply and worsen humanitarian crises.
