US–IRAN Tensions: US Navy seizes Iranian cargo ship in Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated sharply after the US Navy seized an Iranian cargo vessel in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the ship, identified as “Tosca” and reportedly flying the Iranian flag, was intercepted after it allegedly attempted to breach a US naval blockade. According to US claims, the vessel ignored repeated warnings and was forcibly taken under control by American forces. Washington also stated that the ship had previously been involved in suspected illegal activities. The incident comes at a critical time, just ahead of proposed peace talks in Islamabad between the two nations, raising fears that diplomatic efforts may collapse. Iran has strongly opposed US actions, accusing Washington of excessive demands and aggressive behavior. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy route, has increasingly become a flashpoint, heightening concerns of further escalation and instability in the region despite ongoing ceasefire discussions.
