South Asia Update: Thousands Gather in PoK Amid Continuing Anti-Government Protests

Protests in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK) have continued for a reported 37th consecutive day, with demonstrators intensifying their demands against the Pakistani government and military. The report states that thousands of people gathered in Rawalakot, one of the main centers of the protests, where participants chanted slogans against the government. During the gathering at Eidgah Ground, protest leaders reportedly announced that instead of pursuing their previous list of 38 demands, they would now focus solely on seeking freedom from Pakistan. The report also alleges that Pakistani security forces have continued using force to suppress the demonstrations. It claims that Pakistan Rangers opened fire at two separate locations, resulting in the deaths of eight people. According to the same report, more than 70 people have been killed since the unrest began due to alleged firing by Pakistani security forces. These claims have not been independently verified. If accurate, the developments would indicate a significant escalation in unrest in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, raising concerns about human rights, political stability, and the region’s overall security situation.
