Protests in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) entered their 33rd day, with unrest continuing across the region. The main focus of the agitation is a planned march to Muzaffarabad, the capital of PoK, on July 15. More than 100,000 protesters from Rawalakot and other cities are expected to participate in the march, increasing pressure on Pakistan’s government and security forces. Amid fears of escalating demonstrations, Pakistani Rangers allegedly used force against protesters in Rawalakot, resorting to baton charges and firing tear gas shells at people heading to a rally. More than 10,000 Pakistani troops have been deployed across PoK, and authorities have reportedly approved the deployment of additional forces. According to reports cited by the protesters, there have been eight incidents of firing over the past 32 days, leaving more than 200 people injured. The death toll has reportedly risen to 62. Large crowds continue to gather and raise slogans, while tensions remain high ahead of the proposed mass march to Muzaffarabad.
