As the ceasefire between the United States and Iran approaches its expiry, a growing “mediator brigade” has emerged to push for renewed negotiations. Countries including Pakistan, China, Russia, Turkey, and even Gulf states like Saudi Arabia are actively encouraging a diplomatic resolution to prevent further escalation. Talks stalled earlier due to a major disagreement over Iran’s uranium enrichment program. The United States demanded a 20-year suspension of enrichment and removal of highly enriched uranium stocks abroad, while Iran was only willing to accept a 5-year suspension and refused external transfer of its nuclear material. This remains the central sticking point in negotiations. Despite tensions, US Vice President JD Vance has indicated progress and potential flexibility in future talks. Meanwhile, Iran has signaled willingness for a second round of dialogue, but insists on rejecting “excessive demands.” With multiple global powers now acting as mediators, the outcome of renewed talks will determine whether the ceasefire holds or conflict resumes.
