Global attention is focused on whether the United States and Iran can reach an agreement or if the world could once again face the threat of a wider war. An Iranian delegation has arrived in Doha for talks, but fresh reports of clashes near the Strait of Hormuz have sharply increased tensions. According to Iranian media, multiple explosions were reported in Sirik and Jask, towns near Bandar Abbas along the Gulf of Oman and close to the strategically vital Hormuz region. However, Qatari media later claimed the incident involved gunfire rather than explosions. Reports suggest the firing began after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted a vessel at sea, prompting retaliation from US fighter jets. Iranian sources claim several IRGC personnel were killed in the exchange. Further reports allege that the United States and Israel carried out a joint operation near Larak Island, targeting two IRGC speedboats accused of attacking a ship. US media also reported strikes on Iranian naval assets and missile launch sites after Iran allegedly fired missiles at American aircraft in retaliation.
