Breaking News: Hindu Businessman Killed in Bangladesh Ahead of General Elections

Bangladesh is set to hold its general elections on February 12, 2026, but reports of violence continue to emerge ahead of the polls. In a fresh incident, a 62-year-old Hindu businessman, identified as Susen Chandra Sarkar, was allegedly killed in the Trishal area of Mymensingh district, just 48 hours before voting. According to reports, the attackers assaulted Sarkar with sharp weapons inside his shop. After the attack, they reportedly left him inside the store and pulled down the shutter, where he later died. The assailants are also said to have looted several लाख (hundreds of thousands) Bangladeshi taka from the shop before fleeing the scene. The killing has heightened concerns over the safety of minority communities during the sensitive pre-election period. Authorities are expected to investigate the murder and assess security arrangements as the country prepares to vote. The incident adds to tensions surrounding the upcoming elections and raises questions about law and order in certain regions.
