  • Akshay Sharma claimed third DP World PGTI title with strong finish.
  • Sharma’s final-round 64 secured a one-stroke victory.
  • Overnight leader Dhruv Sheoran finished second after a close battle.

Akshay Sharma delivered a stunning final-round performance to secure his third DP World PGTI title at the DP World Players Championship, held at the Classic Golf & Country Club in Nuh, Haryana. The Chandigarh-based golfer produced a flawless eight-under 64 in the closing round to finish at 19-under 269, edging out the competition by a single stroke. The win marked a significant milestone for the 35-year-old, who last lifted a trophy more than five years ago.

His composed display under pressure earned him a winner’s cheque of INR 15 lakh and propelled him to fifth place in the 2026 DP World PGTI Order of Merit, with total earnings crossing INR 37 lakh.

Final Round Surge Turns The Tide

Starting the day four shots behind the leader, Sharma mounted a steady charge with a bogey-free round that included eight birdies. His momentum built gradually, and by the back nine, he had taken control of the leaderboard.

Crucially, he sealed the title with consecutive birdies on the final two holes, ensuring a memorable finish.

Overnight leader Dhruv Sheoran, who began the final round with a three-shot cushion, struggled to maintain his advantage. A mixed front nine featuring two birdies and two bogeys allowed Sharma to close the gap and eventually move ahead by the 10th hole.

Sheoran made a late push with an eagle on the 14th and a birdie on the 16th, narrowing the deficit to just one shot heading into the final stretch. However, he needed an eagle on the last hole to force a playoff and could only manage a birdie, finishing second at 18-under 270.

His runner-up finish earned him INR 10 lakh and lifted him to eighth on the Order of Merit.

Consistency Pays Off For Sharma

Reflecting on his victory, Sharma credited his recent consistency and disciplined approach.

“I’ve been working hard and had a lot of consistent finishes recently, so it feels great to finally get the win. My focus today was simple — hit fairways and greens and stay patient.”

He highlighted a key moment in his round that helped him build momentum.

“I started well and built momentum around the turn with a long birdie putt on the 10th. From there, I felt in control and kept giving myself chances. I knew I needed a strong finish, and the birdies on the last two holes made the difference.”

Sharma also spoke about the emotional significance of the win and acknowledged those who supported him during the lean phase.

“This win after a long gap means a lot. I’m grateful to my sponsors and everyone who has supported me through this phase. Mr. Jeev Milkha Singh has been a huge inspiration and my hero. I thought of him while making that crucial soft putt on the 17 th because that is how he putts,” he said.

Strong Performances Across The Field

Elsewhere, Jamal Hossain secured third place at 14-under 274, while Mani Ram finished fourth at 13-under 275 following another consistent round.

Order of Merit leader Saptak Talwar ended tied 13th at seven-under 281, further extending his lead at the top with season earnings exceeding INR 79 lakh.

The tournament once again highlighted the depth of talent on the DP World PGTI circuit, with players delivering competitive performances throughout the week.
