Asia Pacific cements role as global travel growth engine as Collinson expands lounge network

Asia Pacific (APAC) is emerging as one of the strongest growth drivers in global travel, supported by rising outbound demand from India and Southeast Asia, according to new data from Collinson International. The company has reported an 18 per cent year-on-year increase in visits to its airport lounges and travel experiences across APAC between January and November 2025, compared to the same period last year.

India, China, Thailand, Japan and Singapore emerged as the top five APAC destinations within Collinson’s global network during the period, underscoring the region’s growing importance for both leisure and business travel. Indian travellers, in particular, are playing an increasingly influential role, accounting for 28 per cent of total international visits to APAC airport experiences in 2025, a 10 per cent increase year-on-year.

The data reflects broader structural shifts in India’s outbound travel market, which is projected to triple in value to USD 61.7 billion by 2033. APAC continues to dominate Indian travel preferences, with four of the top five global destinations for Indian travellers located in the region — Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam — driven by improved connectivity, visa access and value-led experiences.

Collinson International said it has expanded its Asia Pacific airport lounge and travel experience network by 21 per cent over the past 24 months to keep pace with rising demand. Priority Pass members now have access to more than 770 airport lounges and travel experiences across APAC, including over 100 non-lounge offerings such as dining concepts, spa services and sleep facilities.

New lounge additions in 2025 include Cafe Sky Library in Sapporo, Coral Lounge at Nagoya’s Chubu Centrair International Airport, Escape Lounges in Brisbane and Cairns, and the Plaza Premium Lounge at Adelaide Airport. In India, new O’Vectra lounges have opened at Tiruchirappalli. Southeast Asia has also seen accelerated additions, including lounges at Hanoi, Cam Ranh and Makassar airports.

Beyond physical infrastructure, Collinson is expanding into travel wellbeing and experience-led services. The company recently launched TrvlWell, a digital wellness feature on the Priority Pass app offering guided meditation, mobility sessions and tools to manage jet lag, fatigue and travel-related anxiety. Wellness partnerships have also been introduced with Natureland Spa in Singapore and Body Care Luck in Japan.

Priority Pass reports 56% surge in airport experience visits by Indian travellers to Asia Pacific

Within India, Priority Pass lounges and travel experiences have seen a significant uptick in popularity among domestic travellers. From January to June 2024, there was a 55 per cent increase in visits to these facilities by Indian travellers compared to the same period last year. Notably, visits to alternative travel experiences such as spas, sleep pods, and restaurants grew by 71 per cent, outpacing the 54 per cent growth in visits to traditional airport lounges.

Additional experience-led benefits include complimentary golf simulator access at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s Travel Club Lounge and curated cocktail offerings at Intervals Bar in Hong Kong.

Todd Handcock, Chief Commercial Officer and Asia Pacific Executive Chair at Collinson International, said the region’s growth is being fuelled by rising consumer expectations and a shift towards more meaningful travel experiences. He noted that India remains a key contributor to APAC’s momentum as infrastructure improves and travellers increasingly prioritise comfort, convenience and personal wellbeing.

Globally, Priority Pass now offers access to more than 1,800 airport lounges and travel experiences across 841 airports in 146 countries, as airport services evolve beyond transit spaces into integral parts of the travel journey.
