Popular television actor Rupali Ganguly, best known for her role in Anupamaa, has spoken candidly about her personal journey with body image after becoming a mother. In a heartfelt conversation with Telly Talk India, she reflected on how body-shaming impacted her self-esteem and how her husband’s support helped her through the most difficult phase.

Struggles After Motherhood

Rupali and her husband Ashwin Verma welcomed their son, Rudransh, in August 2013. Soon after childbirth, the actor revealed she had put on considerable weight, reaching around 83 kg at one point. More than the number on the scale, it was the unsolicited comments from people that left a mark.

“After Rudransh, I was 83 kg aur main mirror nahi dekhti thi. Kahin log ne bola, ‘Tu toh itni moti ho gayi.’ Random cheezein jo kahin jati woh aapko chu jati hai, especially being a woman,” she recalled, admitting that she often avoided mirrors to escape the hurt.

Impact on Self-Esteem

The actor shared how her waistline went from 24 to 40 inches, a change that left her feeling disconnected from her own body. “Mere himmat nahi hoti thi aayne ke samne aane ki… 24 se aapki waist jab 40 ki ho jaati hai ajeeb sa lagta hai,” she said, adding that the emotional weight was far heavier than the physical.

Love and Support from Husband

Through it all, Rupali credited her husband Ashwin for being her anchor. His constant reassurance reminded her that love goes beyond physical appearance. “Ashwin was always very kind. Kind kya, he loved me. When you love somebody, you don’t see the body or anything, but I used to feel different,” she shared with gratitude.

Rupali’s honesty sheds light on the silent struggles many women face after childbirth. By speaking openly, she not only normalises these challenges but also highlights the importance of compassion and support in overcoming them.
