One of the most beautiful countries in the world, Poland, is offering a permanent residency permit to third-country nationals, including Indians, for under Rs 18,100. Known for its rich cultural history and a growing economy, Poland already attracts a rising number of tourists from all over the globe. For beginners, a permanent residence permit is a legal document that allows foreigners to live and work in a country without time restrictions. In Poland, it enables applicants to work without needing additional work permits or registering for self-employment. Beyond unrestricted residence and employment, the permit also grants visa-free travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 days within any 180 days. Additionally, holding a permanent residence permit can serve as a pathway to Polish citizenship, provided the applicant meets further eligibility criteria.

Who Is Eligible For Poland’s Permanent Residency?

A citizen must meet the following criteria to attain the document denoting their permanent residency permit in Poland:

  • They must have spent a minimum of 5 years of continuous legal residence in Poland on a temporary residence permit.
  • Or be married to a Polish citizen for at least 3 years, including residing in Poland for at least 2 years on a temporary permit.
  • Or be a child born to parents holding long-term or permanent EU residence permits in Poland.
  • One must submit valid proofs of regular income earned and accommodations paid for in Poland.
  • Attain B1-level Polish language proficiency, backed by an official certificate acquired.

Documents Required 

  • Two completed permanent residence application forms, submitted in Polish.
  • Passport and photocopies.
  • Photographs.
  • Polish language proficiency certificate.
  • Income proof and documents verifying accommodations and taxes paid.
  • Marriage certificate, with spouse’s identity details and child’s birth certificate (if applicable).
  • All the documents must be translated into Polish.

Step-By-Step Guide On How To Apply 

  1. Step 1: Get an appointment at the Voivodeship Office and apply for the permanent residency permit within the legal stay period.
  2. Step 2: Submit all the documents and provide fingerprints.
  3. Step 3: Pay the application fees, including the stamp duty worth PLN 640 (approximately Rs 15,577).
  4. Step 4: Get the residence card for PLN 100 (approximately Rs 2,434), which takes the overall residency charge to PLN 740 (approximately Rs 18,011).
  5. Step 5: Wait for the processing period to be over. It usually ranges from 6 to 12 months, but could also vary depending on the individual’s application.
  6. Step 6: Once the period is done, pay your card issuance fee and collect your permanent residency permit.
