Onam 2025: Discover Onam jewellery essentials with temple gold classics and diamonds, festive heirlooms for heritage and style.

Aditi Rao Hydari completed her look with statement gold jewellery and a bindi.
Onam is a festival of abundance, heritage, and family, where every detail of celebration from the pookalam to the feast carries meaning. Jewellery, too, becomes an essential part of this cultural expression, reflecting prosperity and personal style. We spoke with Tarang Arora, CEO & Creative Director, Amrapali Jewels, and Darayus Mehta, co-founder, True Diamonds, about the jewellery pieces that embody the festive spirit of Onam.
The Necklace of Blessings

For Tarang Arora, Onam jewellery begins with tradition. “A classic gold temple necklace is essential, it carries blessings and instantly elevates the festive look,” he explains.
Adding a contemporary counterpart, Darayus Mehta points to a rare Portuguese-cut diamond jewel with 160+ facets framed by floral accents. “Like the blooming pookalam, it celebrates abundance, grace, and the joy of gathering together, a jewel as radiant as the season’s golden light.”
Prosperity in Pairings
“The kasu malai (coin necklace) represents prosperity and heritage, making it another must-have for Onam,” says Arora. Mehta offers his own interpretation with a Toi et Moi ring. “Two gems, two hues, one timeless bond. It honours the beauty of the past while embracing the promise of the future, just as the festival bridges tradition and new beginnings.”
Circles of Timelessness
For Arora, jhumkas are a staple. “A pair of timeless jhumkas instantly brings the festive look alive.” Mehta mirrors this sentiment through the symbolism of eternity: “A circle without end, the Eternity Band, with its seamless row of diamonds reflects the season’s spirit of abundance, blessings, and renewal, much like the endless cycle of harvest and celebration.”
Bold Statements of Celebration
“Bold bangles or kadas are essential for richness and grandeur,” Arora notes. “They add drama and amplify the sense of festivity.” Mehta’s modern take comes in the form of a wave-inspired diamond design. “Its fluid shimmer echoes the rhythm of dance, music, and togetherness that fills the air during these joyous days.”
Subtle Accents, Lasting Charm
According to Arora, no look is complete without smaller details. “Whether it’s a statement ring or a delicate nose pin, these accents tie everything together.”
Mehta suggests finishing with a floral pendant. “It mirrors the pookalam’s intricate beauty- delicate, radiant, and carrying the auspicious charm of the season’s first blossoms.”
Jewellery as Heirloom and Expression
Both Arora and Mehta agree that Onam jewellery is about more than adornment, it’s about meaning. “The beauty of such jewellery is that while rooted in tradition, it can also be styled in contemporary ways,” says Arora. “You celebrate culture and at the same time create heirlooms to pass down for generations.”
Mehta adds that diamonds, too, carry stories of legacy. “Each piece becomes part of the season’s joy and continues to shine long after the festivities.”
From temple gold to rare diamonds, these essentials capture the heart of Onam: prosperity, beauty, and togetherness.
