Navratri 2025 Day 1 Goddess, Colour: Navratri is one of the most important festivals for Hindus, celebrated over nine days with devotion and enthusiasm. This year, Sharadiya Navratri starts on September 22 and ends on October 2, culminating in Dussehra, which marks the victory of good over evil.

Each day of Navratri is dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga, and the first day is dedicated to Goddess Shailputri.

Goddess Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga, symbolises the power of nature and is worshipped for spiritual strength and purity. Devotees believe that worshipping her helps cleanse the soul and provides stability and inner power.

Navratri 2025 Day 1: Who is Maa Shailputri and Vrat Katha?

Goddess Shailputri is considered the daughter of the Himalayas. Her name comes from the Sanskrit word “Shail,” meaning mountain, which is why she is called Shailputri, the daughter of the mountain.

She is seen as the personification of Mother Nature and carries the powers of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva.

On this first day of Navratri, devotees start their fasts and focus on self-purification. They perform special prayers and rituals to honour Goddess Shailputri and ask for spiritual enlightenment, inner strength, and stability. The rituals are associated with the root chakra, which is believed to be the foundation of spiritual energy.

Navratri 2025 Day 1: Colour

The colour of the day is white. White symbolises purity, peace, and innocence. Wearing white clothes on the first day of Navratri is recommended as it helps one feel calm and connected to the divine energy of the Goddess. This simple act makes devotees feel more spiritually aligned and opens the path for Goddess Shailputri’s blessings.

Navratri 2025 Day 1: Bhog

On the first day, offering desi ghee (clarified butter) to Goddess Shailputri is considered highly auspicious. Desi ghee is believed to attract positive energy and divine blessings.

A popular bhog (offering) is potato halwa made with generous amounts of ghee. After offering the halwa to the Goddess, devotees can eat it as prasad.

This first day of Navratri marks the beginning of a spiritual journey where devotees focus on devotion, self-control, and mindfulness.
