Ozempic is a weight loss drug prescribed by doctors and medical experts for effective blood sugar regulation and reducing appetite. The drug is used by individuals who are suffering from excess fat and metabolic problems. But while effective, the expensive drug is not easily available and isn’t short of its harmful side effects.
Nutritionist Simrun Chopra advises individuals to replace Ozempic and substitute its impact through the wise consumption of certain Indian food items that are packed with rich nutrients and naturally stabilise the blood sugar levels. According to Chopra, the traditional Indian staple diet is great for metabolic health as it reduces cravings and curbs body inflammation. Here are four Indian food items that mimic the Ozempic drug.

Easily available in Indian households, lentils are packed with fibre and protein. Lentils like moong dal, masoor dal, chana and rajma are fantastic replacements for Ozempic, as they slow down digestion and increase satiety. Lentils control your hunger and positively influence the blood sugar levels by keeping the glucose spikes in check.
Millets and Brown Rice
Talk of slowing down digestion and regulating blood sugar. Millets are another healthy substitute for Ozempic. Low in Glycemic index, Millets don’t just prevent glucose consumption and blood sugar spikes but also provide a boost to our immune system. Eating millets and brown rice keeps us full for longer and gives us sustained energy.
Eggs, Paneer and Chickpeas
A diet packed with these healthy food items is full of protein and fibre, two essential nutrients that combine beautifully to slow down the digestion process, signal a sense of fulfilment to the brain and prevent those risky blood sugar spikes. These foods naturally reduce the appetite and help in your weight loss journey.
Nuts and Seeds
Eating nuts like almonds, walnuts and flaxseeds effectively replaces Ozempic, providing great benefits to our metabolism. These are healthy fats, which reduce the hunger hormone, regulate metabolism and stabilise the blood sugar levels. Regular consumption of dry fruits and seeds keeps us full for longer and positively impacts our eating patterns throughout the day.
