Ganesh Chaturthi Puja And Shubh Muhurat: Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Ganesh Utsav, is one of India’s most beloved Hindu festivals. It celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity revered as the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of wisdom, prosperity, and joy. The festival, marked by devotion and vibrant cultural festivities, is observed for ten days in many parts of the country.

The celebrations are especially grand in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Delhi, where massive pandals (temporary structures) house intricately decorated idols of Lord Ganesha.

Families, too, bring idols home, performing rituals, prayers, and offering sweets like modak, believed to be Ganesha’s favourite. Streets come alive with music, dance, and devotional chants, transforming the atmosphere into one of faith, unity, and celebration.

Lord Ganesha was born during the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month, which usually falls in August or September, according to the Drik Panchang. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will begin on Wednesday, August 27.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Rituals

Ganesh Chaturthi is all about welcoming Lord Ganesha with love and devotion. Homes and temples are decorated with flowers, lights, and rangoli designs. Devotees wake up early, take a holy bath, and perform rituals throughout the day.

Sweets like modak and laddoo, considered Ganesha’s favourites, are prepared as offerings. People sing devotional songs, perform dances, and organise community feasts during the festival.

The final day of the festival is known as Ganesh Visarjan, when idols of Ganesha are immersed in rivers, lakes, or seas. This marks the god’s return to Mount Kailash, leaving behind blessings and hope for his return the following year.

During the daily puja, devotees also observe the Sakat Chauth fast. After preparing the idol with new clothes and ornaments, flowers, fruits, and sweets are offered. The aarti is performed, and the fast is broken with til laddoo.

Hindu mythology connects many stories with Lord Ganesha, and one of the most popular is about an old lady who worshipped him with great devotion. One day, Ganesha appeared before her and asked her to choose a blessing.

Unsure of what to ask, she sought advice from her family. Her son wanted wealth, her daughter-in-law wished for a grandson, and her neighbour suggested she ask for her eyesight to be restored.

The next day, she prayed to Lord Ganesha and asked for wealth, health, eyesight, and a grandson. Pleased with her devotion and thoughtful wishes, Lord Ganesha granted them all. This story highlights Ganesha’s generosity and his love for those who worship him with sincerity.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Fasting

Fasting is an important part of Ganesh Chaturthi for many devotees. People wake up early, bathe, wear clean clothes, and keep fasts while worshipping the lord. Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Ganpati Visarjan Information

Ganesh Visarjan, or the immersion of Lord Ganesha’s idol in water, is one of the most emotional and important rituals of the festival. It symbolises bidding farewell to Ganesha as he returns to Mount Kailash while blessing his devotees with happiness and prosperity.

The immersion process starts with the final puja, where coconuts, flowers, and sweets are offered. Devotees then carry the idol in a procession filled with music, chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”, and dance. Large idols are taken to rivers or seas, while smaller ones can be immersed in tubs at home, keeping the environment in mind.

The most important Visarjan happens on Anant Chaturdashi, which falls on Saturday, September 6 this year (Chaturdashi Tithi: 3:12 AM on September 6 to 1:41 AM on September 7).
