Zara partners with Soshiotsuki to reinterpret cultural codes of late-20th-century Japan

Inditex Group’s flagship chain Zara continues to strengthen its ties with designer fashion. As part of its high-profile collaboration strategy, Zara has joined forces with Japanese label Soshiotsuki, winner of the LVMH Prize 2025, on a project spanning womenswear, menswear, and childrenswear that explores human connection and intergenerational bonds.

The new womenswear, menswear, and childrenswear collections will be available from December 4 online and in selected stores.

Titled “A Sense of Togetherness,” the collection draws on nostalgia for Japan’s cultural landscape of the 1980s and 1990s, blending elements of classic tailoring with more organic, contemporary design. While the womenswear collection favours fluid silhouettes and gentle proportions, the menswear line balances structure and comfort, and the childrenswear range evokes the intimacy of handmade pieces, inspired by the designer’s childhood. “Many of my childhood garments were handmade by my mother, and that personal memory influenced the designs,” explains the brand’s founder, Soshi Otsuki.

The designer also noted that this collaboration with the Galician chain “offers a broader range of expression than Soshiotsuki could achieve on its own”, exploring different emotions with an elegant, poetic approach. This new offering will be available from December 4, both online and in select Zara stores.

With this collaboration, Zara advances its strategy of international partnerships after joining forces with names such as British stylist Harry Lambert, with whom it has collaborated on several occasions, Ghanaian painter Otis Kwame Kye Quaicoe, with whom it presented a menswear capsule in July or, more recently, the Belgian designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin, for a collection inspired by the cinematic energy of New York.

Founded in 1975, Zara had a retail network of 1,759 points of sale at the end of 2024, including company-operated stores and franchises. In financial terms, Zara and Zara Home recorded combined revenue of 27,778 million euros in the last financial year, 6.6% more than in the previous year.

The brand is part of the Inditex conglomerate, chaired by Marta Ortega, whose portfolio also includes Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Pull&Bear, Oysho, and Lefties. Over the same period, the group’s revenue reached 38,632 million euros, representing year-on-year growth of 7.5%.
