Ganesh Visarjan is a time of energy, devotion, and celebration. From colourful pandals to rhythmic dances, the festive fervour is infectious. But long hours outdoors, humidity, sudden rain showers, and sweat can turn your joyous glow into an unwelcome breakout. The key is simple: with the right care, you can enjoy every moment without compromising your skin.

Why Sweat Can Trigger Breakouts

“Dancing during Visarjan is a beautiful expression of joy and devotion, but it can take a toll on your skin,” says Dr. Mili Sinha, Aesthetic Physician at La Clinique. “Extended exposure to sweat, humidity, and pollution often leads to clogged pores, breakouts, and irritation. It’s important to treat your skin with care during this time, cleanse gently, avoid harsh rubbing, and follow up with a calming toner or aloe vera gel,” she explains.

Sweat itself isn’t harmful, but when it mixes with oil, dust, and bacteria, it can block pores and trigger acne. Dr. Bhawuk Dhir, Consultant Dermatology at PSRI Hospital, Delhi, adds, “Humid weather, heavy makeup, and tight clothing can worsen the situation. Keep your skin clean and breathable, wash gently before and after the event, and opt for lightweight, breathable cotton clothes.”

Pre-Event Prep and On-the-Go Care

Preparation is key. Dr. Shweta Nakhawa, Consultant Dermatologist, KIMS Hospitals, Thane, advises, “Cleanse your face before going out. If you sweat a lot, carry tissues or blotting paper to dab away sweat gently. Avoid heavy makeup products that trap sweat and bacteria, and choose a non-comedogenic sunscreen if outdoors.”

Hydration is just as crucial. “Keep yourself well-hydrated, apply a lightweight hydrating gel, and use a facial mist infused with kiwi or berry extracts,” Dr. Sinha recommends. This helps maintain glow while preventing dryness caused by long hours of dancing.

Post-Celebration Recovery

After the festivities, a gentle skincare routine can make all the difference. Dr. Soma Sarkar, Co-founder of Skin Beyond Borders, explains, “Wipe your face clean, double cleanse to remove dirt, sweat, and colours, and follow with moisturisers, hyaluronic acid, and sunscreen. Avoid harsh products or procedures, as your skin may be sensitive.”

A little pre- and post-care goes a long way. By cleansing, hydrating, and protecting your skin, you can dance, celebrate, and enjoy Visarjan without worrying about breakouts. With these simple steps, your skin will remain as radiant and vibrant as the festivities themselves.
