Once a symbol of rebellion, the cocktail ring is back, bigger, brighter, and bolder than ever. Here’s how 2025’s trendsetters are wearing it.

From maximalist aesthetics to gender-neutral designs, the cocktail ring has evolved far beyond its roaring ’20s origins to reflect the spirit of self-expression that defines today’s generation.
There’s a new kind of sparkle lighting up the style radar, one that’s anything but subtle. The cocktail ring, once a symbol of audacity and extravagance, is making a spectacular comeback in 2025. These oversized, unapologetically bold gems are reclaiming their place as fashion’s ultimate statement accessory. From maximalist aesthetics to gender-neutral designs, the cocktail ring has evolved far beyond its roaring ’20s origins to reflect the spirit of self-expression that defines today’s generation.
To decode this dazzling resurgence, we turned to two tastemakers shaping India’s contemporary jewellery scene, Pooja Roy Chowdhary, founder, NIMAI, and Supriya Kataria, founder, Kumari Fine Jewellery. Together, they reveal how the modern cocktail ring has transcended occasion-wear to become an emblem of identity, creativity, and power.

“Cocktail rings have made a triumphant return to the fashion forefront, reclaiming their place as symbols of individuality, glamour, and power,” says Chowdhary. First born in the Prohibition Era, these audacious rings were more than accessories, they were emblems of rebellion, flaunted by women at clandestine speakeasies, cocktails in hand. Set with bold gemstones or intricate designs, they exuded both sophistication and defiance.
After slipping into the shadows of minimalism, they are now resurging in 2025, revived by a cultural hunger for maximalist flair and joyful self-expression. “Today, cocktail rings resonate with a lifestyle that celebrates confidence and versatility. They’re not just for cocktail hours but for boardrooms, brunches, or even virtual calls,” notes Chowdhary. With gender-neutral designs and inclusivity at their core, cocktail rings reflect a new fluidity in fashion while also serving as nostalgic nods to a more glamorous, indulgent past.
Design houses are answering this renaissance with craft-driven artistry. St. Erasmus, with its Swarovski-studded crochet in zari, injects contemporary drama into every oversized piece. House of Tuhina, meanwhile, channels India’s heritage, its Rabari tribal traditions and Trajva tattoo motifs, into mirror-and-bead creations that embody both legacy and modern femininity. As Chowdhary affirms, “They’re more than a ring; they’re a cultural statement, blending rebellion, joy, and power with every bold sparkle.”
If nostalgia is one part of this resurgence, reinvention is the other. “The cocktail rings are making a fabulous comeback, but with a modern and fresh twist,” says Kataria. Once dismissed as chunky statement pieces, today’s cocktail rings embrace vibrant palettes, intricate details, and daring asymmetry. “We are seeing a beautiful mix of colours, ceramic enamel, diamonds, and a variety of coloured stones all coming together to create a vibrant and captivating look,” explains Kataria.
From amethyst and citrine to striking ceramic accents, every detail tells a story of artistry and intent. “The modern trend is all about stacking rings, a popular way to express your personal style by layering multiple rings on one or several fingers,” she adds. The art lies in mixing textures, metals, and stone sizes, balancing minimal pieces with bolder ones for a dynamic, personalised look.
Together, these two perspectives capture why cocktail rings are no longer reserved for a singular moment. They’re icons reborn, versatile enough to carry you from sunrise to after-hours, each sparkle a declaration of individuality.
