Hungarian model and actress Barbara Palvin allowed fans a peek into a much more personal and vulnerable side of her life. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she revealed that she has been diagnosed with endometriosis and is now recovering after surgery. Shedding light on her journey, she created awareness about a condition that affects millions of women globally. FYI, Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus begins to grow outside the uterus.

Beginning her post, Barbara wrote, “Just a little update and a few thoughts for those out there who could relate to what I’m about to share.” Married to actor Dylan Sprouse, the model explained that she had been silently struggling with painful periods for years without an idea of the underlying cause.

But one advice changed everything for her. “Recently, I’ve been advised to seek out an endometriosis specialist to see whether my symptoms are caused by that,” adding that “endometriosis can’t be diagnosed with general examinations,” she explained.

What Is Endometriosis?

A report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that Endometriosis can cause severe pain during periods, heavy or irregular bleeding, painful sex and even infertility. Those suffering from the condition often experience pain in the abdomen, lower back or pelvic area and diagnosis for the same is not always easy, as regular gynecological checkups may not always detect it.
