Weather Alert: Heavy Snowfall in Hills Triggers Cold Wave, Traffic Chaos Across North India

Weather conditions across North India have taken a sharp turn as continuous snowfall in the hilly regions has intensified cold wave conditions in the plains. From Jammu & Kashmir to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, widespread snowfall has disrupted daily life, while Delhi-NCR and nearby areas are witnessing a noticeable drop in temperatures due to icy mountain winds and rainfall. Cold winds and damp conditions have increased chill levels, forcing people to rely on heaters, bonfires, and warm clothing once again. In Himachal Pradesh, heavy snowfall in Shimla, Manali, Mandi, Chamba, and surrounding areas has severely affected traffic movement. Roads have turned slippery, vehicles are stranded, and long traffic jams have been reported as tourist cars remained stuck on snow-covered routes. Authorities issued a yellow alert warning of further snowfall, advising caution for travelers. Local residents were seen helping stranded vehicles navigate icy roads. Jammu & Kashmir also witnessed intense snowfall across Srinagar, Anantnag, Doda, Poonch, Baramulla, and Ramban, leading to highway closures and stalled traffic. Despite the hardships faced by locals, tourists were seen enjoying the snowfall, capturing visuals and celebrating the winter scenery. In Uttarakhand, season’s first snowfall was recorded in Mussoorie, Dhanaulti, Nainital, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, resulting in massive tourist footfall and traffic congestion on hill routes. Meteorological departments have warned that snowfall and cold wave conditions may continue, urging commuters to remain alert as winter conditions tighten their grip from the mountains to the plains.
