At his residence in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak honored a group of batuks (young Brahmin students) by applying tilak and offering flowers. The gesture came amid controversy over alleged misbehavior by police personnel during the Magh Mela, where accusations surfaced that some officers pulled the batuks’ shikhas and mistreated them during a dispute related to a Shankaracharya’s Ganga स्नान. A day earlier, Pathak had publicly stated that any police personnel found guilty of disrespecting the batuks would face strict action, calling such behavior a “mahapaap” (grave sin). His strong remarks brought relief and happiness among the batuks and members of the Brahmin community, who felt their concerns had finally been acknowledged. Following his statement, many batuks visited his residence to express gratitude and offer blessings. Community representatives praised Pathak for raising the issue and defending their honor. The development has gained political attention, with supporters viewing his intervention as a significant stand in response to the controversy surrounding the Magh Mela incident.
